Wendt, John Fred (b. 24 APR 1878, d. 18 MAR 1953)

Note: Obituary of John Fred Wendt

Mr. John Fred Wendt passed away at his home in the Town of Longwood on Wednesday, March 18, 1953 at 9:00 a.m. of a heart ailment.

He was born on April 24, 1878 in Allegon, Michigan, son of Mrs. and Mrs. Henry Wendt, deceased. He came to Thorp with his parents when he was six years old and grew to manhood there. He spent most of his life working in lumber camps.

On April 28, 1909, he was united in marriage to Clara Noah, daughter of the Late Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Noah. After their marriage theyu settled in the vicinity of Longwood where he has resided ever since.

Mr. and Mrs. John Wendt spent the past winter in Kentucky with their daughter Bertha, returning home on Sunday night, March 15th. He was taken sick on the way home and never recoverd.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Adolph (Bertha) Gander, Danville, Ky; Mrs. Burnell (Leona) Erickson, Madison; Mrs. Daniel (Alice) Olson, Greenwood; and two sons Adolph on the home place and Edgar, both of Owen; one sister, Mrs. Bill Courter, Withee; three brothers, bill of Owen; Fred of Lagrande, Oregon; and August of Denver, Colorado. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church in Greenwood, the Rev. Charles Koch, officated. Interment was made in the Greenwood cemetery.

During the Service Walter Needham and daughter Janet sang "Beatiful Isle of Somewhere" and the choir sang "Softely and Tenderly' accompanied by Miss Jeanette Busch at the organ.

The pallbearers were all newphes; Raymond, George, Charles, Cecil and Harold Wendt and Bernard Colby.

The flowers were in charge of Geraldine, Carol, Dennis and Karen Wendt, Katheleen and Arvilla Noah and Duane Olson.

Surprise Gathering is held for the Wendts:

Greenwood ? Relatives and friends attended a surprise 40th wedding anniversary celebration in honor of Mr. and Mrs. John Wendt at their home Sunday afternoon, May 1, 1949. The honored couple received a purse of money from those present.

Miss Clara Noah and John Wendt were married April 28, 1909, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Noah, in Greenwood. They have the following children: Mrs. Adolph (Bertha) Gander of Danville, Ky.; Mrs. Burnell (Leona) Erickson of Madison; Adolph Wendt, Edgar Wendt and Mrs. Daniel (Alice) Olson, all of Greenwood; and 17 grandchildren. Their daughters, Mrs. Gander, her husband and three children, and Mrs. Erickson, her husband and six children, were not able to attend.

Also ? On Thursday evening neighbors surprised Mr. and Mrs. Wendt. Cards furnished entertainment. The Wendts were presented with a purse of money. Lunch was served.

Ferdinand Decker, 76, Greenwood, died Sep. 30, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Death was attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage. He had been a patient at the hospital since Sept. 24. Funeral services were held at his home and at the West Side Evangelical and Reformed Church and burial was made in the West Side Cemetery. Mr. Decker was born March 18, 1874 on a farm west of Greenwood. He is survived by his wife (Meta), two children,Walter Decker, Chicago; and Mrs. Arno (Lillian) Miller, Greenwood; two grandchildren, Joanne and Sharon Miller; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Kratz, Fond du Lac; and Mrs. Ed Geisler, Cornell; and one brother, Otto Decker, Marshfield.

Decker, Walter (b. 11 MAY 1904, d. 20 FEB 1988)
Note: MILLER DECKER WEDDING

A pretty wedding was solemnized Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 28, at 2:00 o'clock when Miss Martha Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Miller, Town of Eaton, be(Copy not clear) walter Decker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Decker, Town of Warner, Rev. P. Franzmeier officated.

With the first strains of Lohengrins Wedding March, played by Mis Selma Reineking, they decended the stairs and took their places under a large white bell in a room which was beautifully decorated in white, orchid, green and garden flowers.

A solo "I Love You Truly" was sung by little Miss Evelyn Steiger, cousin of the bride. The bride was gowned in white crepe satin and kid slippers and wore an embroidered veil with head band of pearl and brilliants. She carried a shower bouquet of pink and white roses and baby breath.

The bridesmaids were Miss Lillian Decker, sister of the groom and Miss Erna Miller, sister of the bride, and wore green and orchid georgette respectively with pompons to match. They carried a bouqet of orchid, pink and white asters and baby breath.

The groom was attended by Arno Miller, brother of the bride and Walter Schwarze, cousin of the groom. The groom and his best men wore dark blue suits.

About 135 guests attended the reception which was followed by a delicious wedding dinner.

After September 1st they will be at home in the Town of Eaton where the groom is employed as cheesemaker.

Those who attended the wedding from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Wm Becker and Mrs. Art Sebastian and family all of Milwaukee and Mr. and Mrs. Wm Bramstedt and family of Sheboygan Falls, Wis.

Deckers gather for 50th Gala in Greenwood

Relatives and friends attended a dinner Saturday evening, September 8, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Walter Decker, Rt. 2, Greenwood, in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. The event was held at the Bali-Hai Supper Club in Neillsville. Original attendants present were Mr. and Mrs. Arno Miller of Loyal and Mrs. Erna Wehrman of Greenwood.

Walter Decker and Martha Miller were married August 28, 1929 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Miller. The Rev. Paul Franzmeier officiated. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Decker. Both honorees were born in Greenwood and received their education in the Greenwood schools.

After their marriage, they lived near Greenwood in the Town of Eaton, where they were occupied in cheesemaking in the West Eaton Cheese Factory.

In 1934, they went to Peru, Indiana, and made cheese there until they moved to Chicago in 1945 where he was employed by Seal Test.

They moved to their present farm, four miles west of Greenwood, in 1951, after the death of his father.

They were both members of the Immanuel United Church of Christ.

In 1972, they were honored for having a farm 100 years in the same family.

Besides the original attendants others present for the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Geoke, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Noeldner and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Suda.

Walter Decker Obituary

Greenwood - Walter Decker, 83, Route 2 Greenwood, died Saturday morning at Neillsville Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood with the Rev. John Tschudy officiating.

Burial will be in Westside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken Steiger, Ervin Steiger, Chuck Suda, Donald Noeldner, Art Wehrman and Harvey Goeke.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood, and again one hour before services Tuesday at the church.

He was born May 11, 1904, in Greenwood to Ferdinand and Meta Decker. He attended Decker School and later studied ice cream making in Chicago.

He married Martha Miller of Greenwood on Aug 28, 1919. She survies.

In 1934 the couple moved to Indiana. In 1945 they moved to Chicago, where he worked at Soal Test Co., making ice cream, for 11 years. In 1951, he bought his father's farm in the town of Warner and farmed until 1975. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1979.

He was a member of Immanuel Church and a past member of Consistury for four years.

Surviving, besides his wife are one sister, Mrs. Lillian Miller of Loyal.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Greenwood - Martha Decker, 95 of Greenwood, died June 10, 202, at the House of the Dove hospice home in Marshfield.

Services were at 11 a.m. today at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Christ in Rural Greenwood. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Visitation was from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

Cuddie Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.

She was born Nov 17, 1906, in rural Greenwood to Albert and Lydia (nee Reineking) miller. She married Walter Decker on Aug. 28, 1929. He died in February 1988. The couple farmed in the Greenwood area for many years.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews.

Decker, Lillian Elsie (b. 23 JAN 1907, d. 21 MAY 1992)

A very pretty home wedding took place Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, June 1, 1932, when Miss Lillian Decker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Decker of Greenwood, and Mr. Arno Miller were united in marriage, Rev. Paul H. Franzmeier of the West Side Immanuel Reformed Church officiating; the ring ceremony being used.

The wedding march was played by Miss Leona Franz of Greenwood. Miss Evelyn Steiger and Miss Ruth Humke sant, "I Love You Truly">

The groom was attended by Mr. Walter Decker, brother of the bride, and Mr. Elmer Steiger, her cousin. Mrs. Walter Decker, sister of bridegroom, was matron of honor, and Miss Erna Miller, sister of the bridegroom was bridesmaid. The bride wore a gown of Spanish lace and white satin with a long veil made in cap style. She carried a shower bouquet of white and pink roses, sweet peas and swan Sonia. The bride's attendants wore gowns of green and pink lace nad net, and both carried bouquets of white and pink carnations. The rooms were prettily decorated in pink and green; the flowers were tulips and ferns.

The bride graduated from Greenwood High School in 1925 and later from Eau Claire County Normal. She has taought successfully since.

The groom, who is the son of mr. and Mrs. Albert Miller, was brought up on the home farm in the town of Eaton. He is a young man of industry and enterprise. They will live on the groom's farm west of Greenwood.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 9 at Immanuel United Church of Christ. Reverend Alwyn York officated and interment was in the Westside Cemetery. Rinka Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Arno Miller was born to Albert and Lydia (Reineking) Miller on July 1, 1908 in the Town of Eaton and received his education at rural town of Eaton School.

He was married to Lillian Decker on June 1, 1932 in the Town of Warner.

He worked for International Lead Works in Milwaukee for two years and returned to Greenwood and bought his fathers farm where they lived until retiring in 1977. They then moved to the City of Loyal.

He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, a member of the Adult Fellowship and served on the church board. He was also director of the Warner Mutual Insurance Company for 30 years.

Surviving him are his wife; two daughters, Miss Joanne Miller of Salinas, California and Miss Sharon Miller, at home; and two sisters, Mrs. Walter (Martha) Decker of Greenwood and Mrs. Erna Wehrman of Greenwood.

Serving as pallbearers were John Bizak, Erwin Toburen, Norman Liebzeit, Donald Noeldner, Charles Suda and Art Wehrman.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Decker, Henry William (b. 18 FEB 1864, d. 25 APR 1930)
Note: HENRY W. DECKER, of section 29, Warner Township (27), range 2 west, Clark County, was born in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, February 18,1864. His mother died when he was three days old, after which he was taken care of by neighbors. He came with his father to this county in 1871, where he has since resided on his present farm of eighty acres, thirty of which is cleared. This place is well improved, and of very good soil. He has also worked in the pineries during the winters, and at the carpenter's trade in the summers, lle rents his farm to tenants. Mr. Decker is an enterprising and public-spirited young man, and has fair prospects for future prosperity. He is a member of the German Reformed Church.

Henry Decker, son of Frederick and Wilhelmine (Diesz) Decker, was born in Franklin, Sheboygan County, February 18, 1864. In the year 1870 he came to Clark County with is parents. He was confirmed on December 25, 1879 by the Rev. P. Bruenger. He was engaged in the carpenter trade in and about the Town of Warner where he lived most of his lifetime.

On April 18, 1893 he was united in marriage to Amelia Buker by the Rev. J. Schmalz. About eleven years ago he suffered his first paralytic stroke, and since has suffered several in the past few years. The last three years his speech failed him and in the last two years he was unable to walk. Cancer developed this year which hastened his death.

He was an active church member serving on the consistery for a number of years. He was called to his eternal reward on Friday morning, April 26th. The Lord surely works in a mysterious way his wonders to perform.

Mr. Decker leaves to mourn his death, his wife; three sons, Oscar of Dorchester; Wm and Arno of Greenwood, Wis.; Three daughters, Mrs. Wm. Geoke and Mrs. Calvin Franz of Greenwood, Wis.; Mrs. Harold Sievert of Durand, Wis.; four brothers, August of Waukegan, Ill; Herman of Ladysmith, Wis.; Otto and Ferdinand of Greenwood, two sisters, Mrs. Louise Kraatz of Fond du Lac and Mrs. Emelia Geisler of Greenwood; three grandchildren and many friends. Mr. Decker reached the age of 66 years 2 months, 7 days.

funeral services were held from the West Side Immanuel Reformed church Tuesday afternoon, Rev Franzmeier officiating. The body was laid to rest in the West Side cemetery.

GREENWOOD Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Decker, 88, a lifelong resident of Greenwood, Clark County, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel United Church of Christ. The Rev. Orval Egbert will officiate and burial will be made in the West Side Cemetery.
Mrs. Decker died of complications at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 1962, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Calvin Franz, where she had resided for the past eight months.
Friends may call at the Hill Funeral Home until 11 a.m. Tuesday, when the body will be taken to the church.
The former Amelia C. Buker was born May 4, 1874, in the Town of Warner and was married April 18, 1893, in Greenwood to Henry Decker, by the Rev. John Schmalz. The couple operated a farm 3 miles northwest of Greenwood until his death on April 14, 1930. Mrs. Decker remained on the home farm with her son, Arno, until eight months ago, when she came to Greenwood to reside with her daughter, Mrs. Franz. She was member of Immanuel United Church of Chirst and its Women s Guild.
Survivors include three sons, Oscar, Spencer and William and Arno, Greenwood two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Esther) Sievert, Eau Claire, and Mrs. Calvin (Meta) Franz, Greenwood Seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Mrs. William (Lydia) Goeke, died in 1953. Three brothers and a sister also preceded her in death.

William Decker, 79, formerly of Greenwood, Clark County, who had been residing at Memorial Home, Neillsville, for the past eight years, died early Saturday morning, July 25, 1981, at Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Immanuel United Church of Christ. Rev. Alwyn York officiated and burial was in the West Side Cemetery.

William Decker was born on Dec. 25, 1901, in Greenwood and received his education at Decker School.

He was never married. He worked on his brother's farm all his life in the Town of Warner.

He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ.

Survivors include two brothers, Oscar of Spencer and Arno of Greenwood, and one sister, Mrs. Esther Sievert of Minong, Wis.

Serving as pallbearers were Paul Humke, Elmer Humke, Alvin Wehrman, Clarence Liebzeit, Norman Liebzeit and Ed Gregorich. Rinka Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Henry and Amelia (Nee Buker) Decker and two sisters.

Arno Decker, 79, of Greenwood, Clark County, died Tuesday evening, June 26, 1984, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 30, 1984, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood. Officiating was Rev. Alwyn York. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Ed Gregorich, Art Christie, Virgil Decker, Harvey Goeke, Gerald Goeke and Clarence Liebzeit. Rinka Funeral Home Greenwood, handled arrangements.

Arno Decker was born on June 17, 1905, at Greenwood. He received his education at the Decker School.

On Aug. 18, 1974, he and Vernie Van Gorder were married at Greenwood. He farmed all his life in the Town of Warner.

He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife one step-daughter, Mrs. Bud (Erma) Brown of Greenwood, one brother, Oscar Decker of Spencer, one sister, Mrs. Esther Siefert of Minong, Wis., six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were two sister , one brother, his parents, one step-son, and one great-granddaughter.

Norbert Kuester, 84, of Route 2, Greenwood, Clark County, died at 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 7, 1983.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 10, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood. Officiating was Rev. Alwyn York. Burial was in the West Side Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, DaNeil Humke, Thomas Prall, Fred, Mark and Russell Awe and Jay LaBonte. Honorary pallbearers were Leon and Elmer Kuester, Walter Rasmussen, Harry and Arvin Liebzeit and Elmer Humke. Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood, handled arrangements.

Norbert Kuester was born on Sept. 4, 1898, in the Town of Warner to Gottlieb and Minnie (nee Reinke) Kuester. He received his education at the Benjamin School. He worked in the lumber camps with his father for many years.

On June 7, 1923, he and Lena Abel were married in the Town of Eaton. They observed their Golden wedding Anniversary in 1973. He farmed in the Town of Warner all his life, retiring in 1961.

He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood, and was on the Consistory.

He is survived by his wife two daughters, Mrs. Calvin (Gladys) Awe of Owen and Mrs. Eldore (Violet) Humke of Greenwood six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Preceding him in death were several brothers and sisters
