Note: Two Funerals at Salladasburg
Burial of the Late A.C. and A.S. Williamson.
The First Sad Event Occurred in the Forenoon and the Second in the Afternoon and Both Were Impressive and Touching--A Very Large Attendance of Friends and Neighbors--Internment made in Salladasburg Cemetery.
Wednesday was a day of sorrow in Salladasbug, for at none o'clock in the forenoon all that was mortal of a distinguished citizen -- Aaron C. Willimson-- was consigned to its last resting place, and at three o'clock in the afternoon occurred the funeral of his nephew, A.S. Williamson. It will be remembered that these deaths occurred within a few hours of each other on Monday last, casting a gloom over that section of the county. The services in both instances were of a most impressive character and were very largely attended, the people for many miles around being present to pay their last tribute of respect to the momory of the departed.
The first funeral, that of Aaron C. Williamson, was conducted by the Rev. George C. Ziegler, pastor of the Lycoming Baptist church, of which deceased had been a devout member. He was assisted by Rev. Samuel Hamm, of the Salladasburg M.E. Churc, and the Rev. H. S. Basom. These ministers spoke in feeling terms of the well-lived life of the honored dead, their remarks havening a perceptible effect on the auditors. The service of the I. O. O. F. was also conducted, after which the casket was borne by the following well known citizens: W. F. Henders, Harry Gohl, John Gohl, Simon Kiess, Williamm Willits and D. D. Neff. The cortege that followed the remains to the grave was a long one.
THE SECOND FUNERAL
No Less impressive was the second funeral at three o'clock in the afternoon, and it was also largely attended by sorrowing friends. It was in charge of the same clergymen mentioned above, and their remarks were of a most touching character. The pallbearers wer L. T. Metzger, Ahrain Metzger, O. T. Baumgarner, Howard Pepperman, David Lush and David Kress. The interment was in the Salladasburg cemetery.
At both funerals there were many floral offerings.
