Dekker, Frederich Adolph (b. 18 SEP 1828, d. 8 MAY 1889)

Frederick Decker, of section 28, Warner Township (27), Clark County, was born in LippeDetmold, Prussia, in 1828. He came to the United States in 1854, settling near Franklin, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, where he cleared a farm. In 1871 he came to this county and settled on the old homestead, where he died May 8, 1889. He was married to Minnie Teace, and they had three children—Fred, August and Henry. The mother died February 21, 1864, and Mr. Decker was again married, March 12, 1868, to Mary Meier, who was born in the Province of Brandenburg, Prussia, December 6,1837, the daughter of Michael Meier, deceased. They had six children: Herman, Otto, Bertha, Ferdinand, Louise and Emelia, all of whom are at home. Mr. Decker was a hardworking man, having cleared a farm of 200 acres, which has since been divided, and a part is now owned by our subject, Henry W. He was a member of the German Reformed Church, and never gave much attention to politics.

Decker family marks 100 years on area farm.

October 27 of this year (1971) marked the 100th year that the Walter Decker farm on Rt. 2, Greenwood, has been owned by a member of the Decker family. The pioneer farm, one of the first in the town of Warner, is located about three miles northwest of Greenwood.

The 120 acre land parcel was purchased October 27, 1871, by Frederick and Marie Decker from a Mr. Sharp. Ulysses S. Grant, president of the United States at that time, signed the original deed.

The Deckers homesteaded the land and resided there with their family, which consisted of six sons and three daughters. One daughter, Mrs. Ed (Emelia) Geisler of Cornell, is still living. Mrs. Geisler is now 90 years old.

A son, Ferdinand, took ownership of the farm from his father on May 23, 1902. He and his wife Meta, improved the land and existing buildings and constructed a new house and additional outbuildings. They operated a dairy farm. Ferdinand and Meta Decker were the parents of two children, a son, Walter, and a daughter, Lillian, Mrs. Arno Miller of Greenwood.

Ferdinand Decker preceded his wife in death in October of 1950; she died in May of 1965. Their son Walter then became owner of the family farm, returning to Clark County from Chicago, where he had been employed. He and his wife Martha have rsided on the property since that time, and have a dairy herd and beef cattle consisting of approximately 35 head. The farm presently emcompasses 80 acres.
