Fire Hits Building
SPOKANE (AP) - Fire raced through three floors of a wooden apartment building in downtown
Spokane, early Wednesday, injuring two •women—one critically.
Carried from the burning building by firemen, was Helene Rossman, 86. She was hospitalized
in critical condition, and hospital officials said she apparently suffered smoke inhalation.
Also under treatment for smoke inhalation was Lola Berry, 64. Both women were residents of
the two-story building.
Firemen said all the building's residents were forced onto the street by the fire which heavily
damaged both floors and the basement.
Fire department investigators said the fire apparently started in the basement, but it's cause.\\

An early fall wedding was solemnized by the Rev. P.H. Franzmeier at the Immanuel Reformed Church parsonage, Tuesday September 8th, at 1: o'clock, when Miss Selma Abel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Abel, became the bride of Norman Geisler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Geisler. The double ring ceremony was read.
The young couple were attended by Miss Elsie Abel, a sister of the bride and Raymond Rasmussen, a close friend of the couple.
A 5:00 o'clock supper was served at the home of the brides parents to immediate relatives.
The Gleaner joins their many local friends in extending congratulations and best wishes for a long and happy weded life.

Selma M. Geisler, 91, Owen, died Thursday, Jan. 01, 2004, at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 5, at Maurina Funeral Home, Owen. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Withee. Robert Ruprich officiated. Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Peter Hannan, Karen Tartar, Nancy Edwards, Cheryl Schmidt, and Eric Bushnell.
Selma M. Abel was born on Aug. 19, 1912 to Gustave and Mary (nee Wehrman) Abel. She married Norman Geisler on Sept. 8, 1936 in Greenwood. They farmed in the Town of Warner, near Greenwood, until 1959, when they moved to Owen. They worked as janitors at Owen-Withee High School for many years. Her interests included sewing, baking, and gardening.
Survivors include her daughters, Evelyn Geisler, Loyal, Caroline Hannan, Loyal, and Betty (Brian) Bushnell, Wausau; five grandchildren, Peter Hannan, Karen Tartar, Nancy Edwards, Cheryl Schmidt, and Eric Bushnell; nine great- grandchildren; and one sister, Elsie Abel, Greenwood.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Norman, on Dec. 3, 2000; a grandson, Paul Hannan; one sister, Marcella Abel, and one son-in-law, James Hannan.
Maurina Funeral Home, Owen, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Abel, 77, a lifelong resident of Greenwood, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 19, 1967, at her home here in Greenwood. She had been in ill health the pass five years.
The former Mary Lydia Wehrman, daughter of Frederick Wehrman Sr. and Mary (Wollkaupt) Wehrman, was born on the farm home in the Town of Warner on January 17, 1880. Here she grew to womanhood and received her education in the Decker school.
She was baptized and Confirmed in the West Side Immanuel Church.
On June 22, 1911 she was united in marriage with Gustav Abel in this same church, their's being the first marriage in the then new, present church structure. They mrked their 55th Anniversary this past june, 1966. To union was born 3 dauthers, Selma, Mrs. Norman Geisler, Owen; Misses Elsie and Marcella Abel, Greenwood.
The couple made their home on a farm 4 and one-half miles northwest of Greenwood it being her husband's birthplace. In 1963 they retired, and moved into Greenwood the following year.
Mrs. Abel was of a very quiet nature but a true friend to all who knew her.
Survivors are her hustand, the 3 daughters, 3 granddaughters, 1 great grandson and one son-in-law, also neices and nephews.
Her parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers preceded her in death.
Memorial services were held at the Hill Funeral Home at 2:00 p..m., Monday, Jan. 23, 1967, Rev. Carl Booher, pastor of the Grace Methodist Church, officated. Mrs. Carl Booher was organist. Soloist Steven Booher sang, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus: and "Near To The Heart of God."
Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Alvin Albert, Arthur Schwarze, George Humke, Hubert Kuehn, Henry Vollrath and Edgar Opdycke.
Those from away who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Norman Geisler, Owen; Mr and Mrs. Brian Bushnell and son, Barron; Miss Evelyn Geisler, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. James Hannan, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wehrman, Mr. and Mrs. William Wehrman all of Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gehrt, Rib Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Wendt, Mrs. Karl Laube, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Laube and Mrs. Virgil Bublitz all of Owen.

Greenwood, Clark County: Mrs. Gustave Abel, 77, a lifelong resident of Greenwood, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan 19, 1967 at her home. She had been in ill health the past several years.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hill Funeral Home here with the Rev. Carl Booher, pastor of Grace Methodist Church, Greenwood, officiating. Burial will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
The body will repose at the funeral home from Sunday afternoon until time of services.
The former Mary Lydia Wehrman was born in the Town of Warner on Jan. 17, 1890. Her marriage to Gustave Abel took place June 22, 1911, at the West Side Reformed Church in Greenwood.
The couple farmed northwest of Greenwood until their retirement several years ago, when they moved to the city of Greenwood.
In addition to her husband, survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Norman (Selma) Geisler, Owen, Misses Wlsie and Marcella Abel, Greenwood, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
