Carpenter in Las Vegas, Nevada, when Miss Verona Marie Vollrath of Beverly Hills, Calif., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Vollrath of Greenwood, became the bride of Leslie Lee Marshall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Marshall of Rockford, Ill.
The bride was attired in a light brown suit with white and brown accessories. She wore a corsage of white carnations and Star of Bethlehem. She was attended by Miss Marjorie Wahlstroom of Beverly Hills, Calif., who wore a light grey suit with white and brown accessories. Her corsage was of pink carnations and star of Bethlehem.
The groom was attended by Milton Stewart of Las Vegas, Nevada. He wore a dark brown jacket with tan trousers and a pink carnation buttonaire.
The wedding dinner was served in the dining room of the Apache Hotel. The groom is employed at Simon's Drive Inn Corporation. They will make their home in Hollywood, Calif.

The Bride after arriving in Los Angeles attended the California State Buisness College. The groom is a graduate of Washington High School, class of 1934.
The bride was pretty in a suit of Heavns Own Blue, with navy and white accessories. She was attended by her sister, miss Verona Vollrath of Beverly Hills, Calif., who wore a suit of R. A. P blue with navy and wine accessories.
Ardeth Dunn of Las Vegas, Nevada, served as best man.
A wedding dinner was served in the dining room of the Apache Hotel. The couple left for Boulder Dam for a wedding trip. The groom is employed at the Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studio. They will make their home in Culver City.

Bernice Vollrath, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Vollrath of Los Angeles, Cal., formerly of Greenwood, Wis., and Charles Spohr of Puente, Cal., were married in The Little Church of the West by candle light at 3 p.m., at Los Vegas, Nevada, on March 5. Rev. Walter Bishop of the Baptist church officiated. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Spohr were the couple's only attendants.
For her wedding, Miss Vollrath wore a light blue gaberdine suit with a pink hat, and navy blue accessories. She wore a corsage of orchids.
A wedding supper was served in the Ramona room of the hotel Last Frontier, following the service. After a short honeymoon at Los Vegas and Boulder Dam, the couple returend to Los Angeles, where they were honored with a reception at the home of the birde's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Vollrath, 8811 South Menlo Ave.
The bride has worked as a dentist's assistant since coming to Los Angeles, is a graduate of the Greenwood high school with the class of 1943. They are settled in their new home that they had bought and furnished before the wedding. It is at 3109 Pearson Ave., Whittier, Cal.

Marriage vows were exchanged between Miss Alice Vollrath, daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. John Vollrath of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mr. Wright Denman, son of Mrs. L. Denman , Calif., and the late Mr. O.S. Denman of Fresno, Calif., in the Little Church of the West, by candlelight at 3:30 p.m. at Los Vagas, Nevada, on March 19th. Rev. Walter Bishop of the Baptist Church officated.
The bride looked very pretty in her crepe dress of a lovely shade of rose with navy blue accessories. Her navy blue hat beiing adorned with pink flowers. Her corsage was of white orchids.
The sister of the birde, Mrs. Lster Marshall, Matron of Honor, wore a navy blue crepe dress with navy and white accessories, and a gardenia corsage.
The groom and best man, Mr. Lester Marshall, brother-in-law of the bride, both wore brown suits with white carnation buttonaires.
A wedding dinner was served in the Romona Room of the fashionable Last Frontier Hotel. Taking a short honey moon to Boulder Cith and Boulder Dam. On returning to Los Angeles a reception was held at the home of the brides parents with relatives and a host of friends attending.
The home was decorated with spring blossom's of peach and plu. Pink comellias adorned a three tier wedding cake.
The groom is a salesman for American Home Foods Company for the past 2 1/2 years. The brides has been employed 4 years by J. W. Robinson Company.
The young couple now resie at 820 1/2 West Florence Ave., Los Angeles, Calif.

Arthur was the second child born of John and Mada Vollrath on May 1, 1919 in the farming community of Greenwood, Wisconsin. At 21 years of age Art left the farm for Lincoln, Nebraska to attend Aviation Mettalsmith School to begin a career in building airplanes. From there he relocated to Buffalo, New York to work for Curtiss-Wright Corporation.
In 1943 Arthur enlisted in the United States Navy, serving 2 1/2 years in the Amphibious and Logistic Units. He took part in the Normandy Invasion on Utah Beach. Arthur proudly wore the ribbons from the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, the American Theatre, European-African Theatre where he earned one star, and the Victory Medal of World War II.
In 1948, Arthur married Irene Hoegh, of Atlantic, Iowa and they made their home in Los Angeles, California.
After serving his country, Arthur decided to change careers and become a carpenter. He received his Certificate of Journeyman on Janury 1, 1950. He accomplished his dream of building his home in Santa Ana, where he remained until his going home to be with the Lord.
In September, 2001 he was awarded his 55 year pin for remaining in the carpentry field.
Arthur is survived by his two children; Dianne Jeffries and Ronald Vollrath, four sisters; Lorraine Allchin, Verona Marshall, Alice Denman, Beernice Sphor and one grandchild: Jimmy.

Former Greenwood Boy Discharged
Arthur Vollrath, 2-c, soon of Mr. and Mrs. John Vollrath of Los Angeles, Calif., received his discharge on March 1, 1946. He entered the armed forces training at Sampson, New York amphibious training at Little Creek Virginia, and Fort Pierce, Fla.
On March 24 1944 he left for Oran Africa to Swanee Wales and tehn to Plymouth England. From there he went to France where he took part in the Normandie invasion. In November he was taken off the ship and formed the LCVF Unit No. 5, and in April was sent to LaHarve, France to help train French Sailors to operate small boats. On May 1, 1945 he was sent back to the states landing in Boston from South Hampton, England.
After spending a short leave with his parents he was sent to Shoemaker, Calif and to Port Heuneme, Calif forming the Logistic Support Co., No. 77 taking Stev idore traininguntil October 26, 1945. Leaving on the USS JOHN LANE he was sent to Guam for 4 months then he returned to the states and was discharged at San Pedro, Calif.
He wears the Asiatic-Pacific Area, European-African 1 star and victory Medal World War 2.

News From The Boys In Camp
July 7, 1944
Dear Verona;
Must write you a few lines. I am back some where in England listed as a survivor. My small boat was wrecked in that storm and lost some of our gear.
The Navy replaces some of it. They have load speakers all over the place here so we hear music all day. The Cahplain arranges picnics for we fellows, have movies in the afternoon and evening.
So we are living allrite if we don't have to go on a working party.
I am entitled to wear four bars, one in the American Theatre of War the European Theatre with a star in it. Also combat and the Atlantic Fleet. I hope I get some mail soon. I ought to have a sack full. I'll bet you get to see some good news reels. Think I'll go and see a movie tonite. This is about all. So write soon.

The following letter was sent in by his sister Verona Marshall of Las Angeles.
May 21st
Dear Folks;
I suppose you have been wondering what happened. Well I am O.K. It's been about a month that I have been able to send or recieve any mail.
We crossed a large body of water and reached our destination safely. I got sea sick, but it didn't last long. We had our first mail call today. I didn't get any but I know I have some on the way.
The boys here ask us about U.S.A. Later-Igot your V-mail letter today dad. Sure glad to hear from you. I also got the Gleaner. The first one since I left Port Pierce.
I suppose you've been fishing. I could gofor some northern pike.
Also got a letter from Lorraine with clippings of Dick Bong. Some guy. Can't tell what will come out of Northern Wisconsin, guess.
The beer is very bitter. Most of the places are open only a few hours or sold out.
Most everything is bombed to pieces here.
The signs on the churches say their will be services here if weather permits.
This is about all I am allowed to write. Write often.

Wedding vows were spoken before a candle light alter, banked with baskets of white chrysanthemums and white gladolias, at the Fight Lutheran Church, Los Angeles, California, on Friday, October 22nd at 7:00 P.M. Miss Irene DeLois Hoegh, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hoegh of Atlantic, Iowa, became the bride of Arhtur William Vollrath, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Vollrath of Los Angeles, California and formerly of Greenwood, Wis.
The bride was attired in a blue morie taffeta street length dress, her hat was a hallo effect of deleicate pink feathers with accessories of navy blue. Her flowers were a corsage of white orchids. She wore a rinestone necklace, a gift of the groom.
Her matron of honor was Mrs. Lenard Chessmore, a friend of the bride. She wore an electric blue street length dress, with a black picture hat and elbow length gloves. Her corsage was yellow rose buds.
The groom wore a heather blue suit. The best man, Orlin Vollrath, brother of the groom, wore a brown suit. Both wore white carnation boutonnieres.
The mother of the groom wore a navey blue dress, her corsage was of red rose buds.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Vollrath home to close friends and immediate relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Vollrath honeymooned at San Francisco and Saratoga.
The bride is a granduate of the Atlantic High School and has been employed by the Federal Reserve Bank for the past five years. Since coming to California she has become a member of the Alpha Beta Sorority.
The groom spent 2 1/2 years in the Navy and is now employed by Stanton and Reed Company.
The couple now reside at 127 East 76th Street, Los Angeles, California.

Note: Obituary of Orlin John Vollrath
Orlin John Vollrath was born December 12, 1927, son of Mada L. Vollrath and the late John F. Vollrath at Greenwood, Wisconsin. He passed away at his home in Culver City, California on October 2, 1957 of a brain tumor at the age of 29 years.
He lived his boyhood days with his parents on a farm near Greenwood, Wis., He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1945, shere he played in the school Band and was the quartet soloist. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America for four years and also a member of the Salem Braun Settlement Church.
In 1945 he moved with is parents to Los Angeles, Calfi., where he has resided for the passt twelve years.
From January 18, 1946 to November 24, 1947 he served in the US Navey. His basic training was taken at San Diego, Calif., and he was later stationed at Tresure Island, San Francisco and earned the reating of Storekeeper 3rd Class.
In 1949 he attended Refrigeration School and later took Public Accounting at the University of Southern California.
On October 7, 1950 he was united in marriage to Charleen Jane Fuller, and to this union one daughter was born.
For the past seven years he has been employed by the Oroweat Baking Company. After bone cancer took his right arm early in 1951, Oroweat promoted him to Office Manager of their new plant in the San Ferando Valley.
That was the beginning of almost seven years of his ourageous fight with cancer. From 1951 to 1956, he served in advisory capacity at the University of California at Los Angeles Veterans Limb Shlp. He advised and encouraged people whose arms were amputated at the shoulder.
In April and September of 1956, he underwent lung surgery. Soon after he was forced to discontinue wearing his limb, and it was like losing his arm all over again.
After his April surgery, his comback was so good, he and Mrs. Vollrath and their daughter motored to North Dakota for a six weeks vacation.
In March of 1957, he again entered the Los Angeles Veteran's Hospital, this time for pneumonia. Upon recovery he was given more Radium treatments, which were only a part of those given through the years. Soon after he was sent to the UCLA Medical Center for the latest Cobalt treatments. His case stands unknown to the medical men of the Los Angeles Tumor Board. Doctors are using this knowledge for research purposes.
He was laid to rest on Saturday, October 5, 1957 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Hollywood Hills. Pastor William H. Blough conducted memorial services from the Church of the Hills at Forest Lawn, using the 23rd Psalm and the Fourteenth Verse of St. John. A soloist sang "The Lord's Prayer."
The American Flag stood in the Circular Chancel and wa a gift from the Veterans Administration.
The pallbearers were Supervisors of several Orowaet Plants in the Los Angeles Area: Robert Mesich, Harry Medevis, Les Henricks, Paul Elles, D. W. Smith and Joe DeGruccio, Honorary pallbearers were cousins of the deceased; Dale Anderson, Hardlo Anderson, Glenn Anderson and Lary Anderson.
Mr. Vollrath was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Culver City, Calf., He resided at 3441 Veteran Ave. for seven years.
He is survived by his wife Charleen Vollrath, one daughter Nancy, age 3; his mother Mrs. Meda Vollrath of Los Angeles; one brother and four sisters Arthur Vollrath, Santa Ana, Calif.; Mrs. Willis (Lorriane) Allchin, Tacoma, Wash.p; Mrs. Lester (Verona) Marshall, Fullerton, Calif.; Mrs. Wright (Alice) Denman, Gardena, Calif.; Mrs. Charles (Bernice) Spohr, Ontario, Calif. His father preceded him in death in April of this year.
Relatives and many friends attended the services. Out of city relatives were Mrs. Vollrath's father Harry Fuller Sr. and her brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fuller Jr., all of Sherwood, N.D.; Also his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Allchin of Tacoma, Wash..
