Trunkel, John F. (20 AUG 1913 - 31 MAR 1992)

John F. Trunkel, 78, Greenwood, died Tuesday, March 31, 1992, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 3, 1992, at Holy Family Catholic church, Willard. Rev. James Lesczynski officiated and burial was in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery.

Full military rites were conducted by the Greenwood American Legion.

Pallbearers were James Snedic, William Snedic, Duane Trunkel, Dennis Trunkel, Frank Trunkel, and Tony Trunkel.

John F. Trunkel was born Aug. 20, 1913, in Willard, to Anton and Anna (nee Stalzer) Trunkel. He received his education at Willard School. He worked as a painter and electrician before entering the service. He served in WWII from 1941-1945. He married Sophie Gosar Aug. 2, 1943, at Holy Family Catholic church. She survives. He farmed all his life in the town of Hendren. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, KSKJ Slovenina Lodge, and the Greenwood American Legion.

Survivors include his wife four sons, John W. Trunkel, Jacob Trunkel, and Daniel Trunkel, all of Willard and Robert Trunkel, Greenwood two daughters Mrs. Charles (Judith) Andreasen, Minneapolis and Mrs. Dale (Kathleen) Severson, Curtiss one brother, Edward Trunkel, Greenwood one sister, Mrs. Ann Snedic, Willard 12 grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Tony.

Gosar, Sophie Marie (b. 7 OCT 1917, d. ?)

Before an altar trimmed with mixed flowers and candles, Miss Sophie Gosar, daughter of Mr. and mrs. Frank Gosar of Willard became the bride of Tech. Sgt. John Trunkel of Oakland, Calif., son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Trunkel of Willard at an 8:30 mass at Holy Family Church at Willard on Monday, August 2, 1943. Rev. Raphal Stragisher performed the double ring ceremony. About 200 guests were presnt. The wedding march was played by Miss Mary Gosar, sister of the bride. The bride, who was given away by hor father, was dressed in a princess styled lace-trimmed satin gown with a finger tip veil falling from a pearl tiara and she carried a bouquet of white roses.

The maid of honor, Josephine Laken, a friend of the bride, was gowned in pink velvery, fashioned with a square neckline and full skirt. The bridesmaid, Ann Gosar, a sister of the bride, was dressed aqua velveray, fashioned with a square neckline and full skirt, and both carried pink gladiolis, carnations and roses. They also wore tiaras and shoulder length veils, matching their gowns.

The groom was attended by Frank Koschak, a friend and his brother, Edward Trunkel ushered.

The Bride's mother wore a light blue dress and the groom's mother chose a dark blue and white dress. Both wore mixed flower corsages.

A wedding reception for about 200 guest was given at the bride's home at 6 p.m. that evening. The house was trimmed with red, white, and blue streamers and on the center of the table was a three tiered wedding cake. That evening a wedding dance was held in honor of the happy couple at the west side hall, Willard.

The bride's going away outfit was a gray suit with matching accessories.

The Bride and groom will be at home at Oakland, Calif. after August 7.

The bride is a graduate of the Greenwood high school with the class of 1935; took a teacher's training course at Neillsville high school and has been a rural school teacher in Clark County. The groom has been in the Army for nearly two years. Before entering the Army he was engaged in painting and electrical work around Willard. The young couple left the day after the wedding, for Oakland, Calif., where they will make their home.

The Gleaner joins their many friends in extending congratulations and best wishes for many years of Happy wedded life.

Stevenson, Mark Richard (b. 20 FEB 1954, d. 17 JUL 2005)
Note: Mark Richard Stevenson was born February 20, 1954 to Richard and Marie (Swearingen) Stevenson in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1972, he graduated from Henry Sibley High School in West St. Paul, Minnesota. Mark received a degree in Supermarket Management from Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount, MN. On May 6, 1978, he was united in marriage to Carol Kern in Gilman, Wisconsin. After their marriage Mark worked for Applebaums Corporation and then Peoples Natural Gas in Eagan, Minnesota. In 1984 Peoples Natural Gas Company transferred Mark and his family to Trimont, Minnesota. In December, 1994 Mark became disabled due to a heart condition called dilated cardiomyopathy. He fought this illness with courage, faith, tenacity and a cheerful sense of humor. During his illness, Mark returned to college and earned a degree in Mechanical Drafting and Design in the year 2000 from South Central Technical College in North Mankato, Minnesota. As a student and alumnus, Mark was actively involved in the student organization Skills USA VICA. Mark was a former volunteer firefighter for both the City of Eagan and the City of Trimont. He volunteered his time at the Trimont Nursing Home and St. James Lutheran School. He was a faithful and active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Trimont, Minnesota. Mark adored his wife and cherished his children. He attended and exhibited at many area classic car shows. He enjoyed meeting and visiting with people of all ages from all walks of life.
Mark left this earth and went to his eternal home in heaven on Sunday, July 17, 2005. He died at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota at the age of fifty-one years.

Kuester, Ella Wilhelmina (b. 16 DEC 1895, d. 24 APR 1958)

Mrs. Albert Fravert, nee Ella Kuester, daughter of the late Gottlieb and Wilhemina Reinke Kuester, was born in the Town of Warner on December 16, 1895. She received her education and grew to womanhood there.

On September 22, 1915 she was united in marriage at the home of her parents by Rev. Otto Saewert, pastor of the West Side Church. They resided on a farm 6 3/4 miles northwest of Greenwood until April, 1955 when they retired and moved to Greenwood.

Mrs. Fravert was a member of the West Side United Church of Christ, its Ladies Aid, Senior Choir and the West Side Homemakers Club.

Mrs. Fravert, who had been a patient at St. Joseph's hospital, Marshfield since Sunday, May 18, following a heart attack, passed away there at 3:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 24, 1958. The body was brought to the Hill Funeral Parlors where it lay in state.

Funeral services were held at the West Side United Church of Christ on Tuesday, May 27th at 2:00 P.M. Rev. Jack Grether officated. Burial was made in the West Side cemetery.

During the service the choir sang "Ivory Palaces" and "The Lord Is My Shepherd" accompanied by Mrs. Alvin Alberts at the organ.

The pallbearers were Arthur Humke, Emil Noah, Joseph Pastor, Wm. Dallman, Arnold Beyer and Calvin Franz.

Mrs. Fravert is survived by her husband, one daughter Mrs. Ervin (Laverne) Toburen, one grandson, Delmain Toburen; one sister, Mrs. Lydia Dill, and two brothers, William and Norbert Kuester, all of Greenwood.

GREENWOOD--Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the West Side United Church of Christ for Mrs. Albert Fravert, 63, who died Saturday in St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, where she had been a patient for six days. The Rev. John Gruether, Neillsville, will officiate at the services and interment will be made in the West Side cemetery.
The body is lying in state at the Hill Funeral Home, not the the Geogas Funeral Home as was mentioned in an earlier issue of the News-Herald. At 11 a.m. Tuesday it will be taken to the church.
The former Ella Wilhemina Kuester was born Dec. 16, 1894, in the town of Warner, Clark county, Wisconsin. She attended the Church of Christ, the Ladies Aid, Senior Choir, and the West Side Homemaker's club.
Surviving besides her husband are one daughter, Mrs. Ervin (Laverne) Toburen one grandchild, Delmain Toburen one sister, Mrs. Lydia G. Dill two brothers, William and Norbert Kuester.
Four brothers preceded her in death.

W. H. TOBUREN PASSES AWAY

W. H. Toburen, for many years a resident of this city and community (Greenwood, Clark County), died at his home here early Wednesday morning, Sept. 4th, 1935.

Deceased was born in Germany June 22, 1852, and was 83 years, 2 months and 12 days old at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife and four children, Wm. Of the Town of Warner, Gus of Wausau, Mrs. Nels Fulsang of Chicago, and Mrs. Art Syth of the Town of Eaton. One daughter, Mrs. Wm. Miller, preceded him in death May 22, 1935 and another daughter, Laura, died 3 years ago.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, Rev. E.G. Pfeiffer will officiate. The body will be laid to rest in the West Side Cemetery.

Miller, Peter (b. 21 SEP 1848, d. 21 SEP 1937)

Peter Miller was born May 6, 1848 in Washington County, Wisconsin. Here he spent his childhood, youth and early manhood. As a young man he was engaged in the harness buisness and followed this trade for six years.

In the early 70's he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Herbel. To this union 9 children were born. One daughter Louise preceded him in death in 1888, his wife in 1894 and one son Arthur during service in the World War.

In the year 1879 Mr. Miller with his family came to Clark County where they settled on a farm in the Town of Warner. Here he resided until 1910 at which time he sold his farm. From that time until 1918 he mad his home with his sons. He then moved to Texas, and lived there for one year. In 1919 he came back to Wisconsin and has since that time made his home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mattausch in Buffalo county.

Mr. Miller was a member of the West Side Reformed Church from the year 1881 until he moved away in 1910. He was well known throughout the community and was always wlling to aid his friends and neighbors to the best of his ability.

Mr. Miller enjoyed good health even in his old age until last December. From that time he was confined to his bed, passing away on Tuesday afternoon, September 21, 1937. He reached an age of 89 years, 4 months and 15 days.

Those who survive are his sons, William, George and Albert of Greenwood, Calvin of Minnesota, Theodore and Edward and (Emilie) Mrs. Henry Mattausch of Alma. 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 at the home of Albert Miller and 2:00 at the o'clock at the West Side Reformed church on Friday Sept. 24, Rev. P. H. Franzmeier officated and interment was made in West Side Cemetery.

The pallbearers were six grandsons Oscar, Arno, Donald, Delbert and Orville Miller and Lester Mattausch.

The flower girls were four grand daughters, Mrs. Art Wehrman, Mrs. Oscar Franz, Mrs. Arleigh Olson and Delores Mattausch.

The following out of town relatives and friends attended the funeral; Mr. and mrs. Henry Mattausch and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Miller and son, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schmidt, Joseph Mattausch, Mrs. Amelia Mattausch and Reinhold Mattausch, Mrs. Lester Conrad and Donald Miller all of Alma, Mr. and Mrs. Arleigh Olson of Blanchardville, Mr. and Mrs. Thone Karnitz, Mrs. Mary Karnitz and Mrs. Aug Dux of Neillsville.
