Smith, Herman Landonvale (Landon Vaill?) (b. 18 OCT 1815, d. 29 AUG 1900)
Note: Record of Death lists date of birth as Oct 18, 1816
Note: From the Sun Prairie, Wisconsin newspaper The Countryman, Sept 6, 1900

Obituary
Herman Smith, who died August 29, was born at Litchfield, Connecticut, Oct 18, 1815. In 1818 the family moved to Madison Co, New York, where he grew to manhood and where he married Miss Julia Ann Keeler, his faithful helpmate and life companion.
After residing in Fenner, NY, until the fall of 1864 the family came to Wisconsin, settling on a farm in Sec.23, Windsor, where they remained for twenty years. In 1884, Mr Smith removed to the farm commonly known as the “Smith farm” about a mile west of the village on the Windsor road, where he resided until the fall of 1892, when feeling himself unfit for the active labors of the farm , he purchased his late residence on Main Street where he since lived.
Three children were born to Mr & Mrs Smith, Horace who died in infancy. Louis K. of Paoli, who died in 1897, and Orson H. who resided in Rio, Wis.
His grand-daughter, Mrs Hosea Rood, of Bristol, lived with them from childhood until her marriage.
Mr Smith is survived and mourned by his wife and son, and a numerous family of grand and great grand-children.
He was a true and consistent Christian, a member of the Methodist church from his early manhood. As a neighbor he was kind, genial and obliging; as a friend true and loyal and many will miss his kindly smile and cordial greeting. His life passed peacefully by in love and goodwill to all and his memory, like the strain of some soft familiar melody, will linger long in the hearts of all who knew him.
His end, though unexpected and sudden, to his friends, was not to him, and after his brief illness he passed to that land where there is no death and where the Father and the Son shall greet him.
The funeral was held from his family home at half past two, Friday afternoon, Aug 31. Rev. J.D. Woods officiating, and he was laid to rest in the village cemetery.

As sinks the evening sun
At the close of a cloudless day;
Like a sheaf of ripened grain
That the harvest bears away;
So came the gentle call
To him whose race was run:
He simply kissed the rod divine
And hearkened the words: “Well done!”

Keeler, Julia Ann (b. 24 FEB 1819, d. 20 JAN 1901)
Note: Obituary:

From the Sun Prairie, Wisconsin newspaper The Countryman, Jan 24, 1901

Death of Mrs. Smith

Mrs Julia Anna Keeler-Smith passed away at her home in this village Saturday night at 12 o'clock, after a week's illness from the grip.
The deceased was born in Fenner, NY, Feb 24, 1815. She was married to Herman L. Smith, of Fenner, Oct 18, 1838. They came to Wisconsin in 1854 and settled in Windsor, where they resided until 1885. In that year they removed to the town of Burke, and in 1893 to this village. Mrs Smith was the mother of three children --- Louis K., who died in 1897; Horace L., who, died in infancy, and Orson living in Rio. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and two brothers and one sister living in New York.
Her family will miss her. She was to all a mother in the true sense of the word. She was a woman of domestic tastes and found in her home the needs of life, bearing the trials and vicissitudes of life with a Christian fortitude. There was that in her life which commands admiration and is worthy of emulation.
Funeral was held at the home Tuesday afternoon and the remains interred in the village cemetery beside those of her husband, who died but a few months ago.
Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral of Mrs Smith this week were: Mr & Mrs O.H. Smith and Mr & Mrs Wm Smith, of Rio; Mrs Steven Allen, of Rockton, Ill, Mrs J.E. Mielke, Mrs L.K. Smith, son and daughter, and Mrs L. Smith, Jr., of Paoli.
