Note: Obituary for William T. Bethel:

OREGON - William T. Bethel, age 86, of 1118 Storytown Road, Oregon, died on Monday, September 29, 1980 in a Madison Hospital after a long illness. He was born January 26, 1894 in the town of Oregon. He married the former Rose Mielke July 3, 1913 in Freeport, Illinois. He had lived his entire life in the Oregon area and was a horse dealer in the area for many years. He was a member of United Methodist Church of Oregon. He is survived by his wife, Rose at home; a son, William of Southfield, Michigan; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Reindahl of Brooklyn, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Hazard of Madison; nine grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Two sons preceded him in death, Forest John and Elmer Eldon. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 3 at the B.L. Booth Funeral Home, Oregon. Reverend Joseph Lukonic will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Mound cemetery, Oregon. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Thursday evening.

Your Great Grandmother Elizabeth (Welch) Bethel was born in Penn. June 23, 1817. Died March 16, 1898, at this home, the Williamson Homestead. They were married Jan. 8, 1837. They reared a family of 9 children; 4 sons, 5 daughters.

Oregon -- Rose E. B ethel, age 92, died on Monday, April 24, 1989, at a local hospital. She was born on October 9, 1896, in Dane County, Wisconsin, and is survived by a son, William (Elaine) Bethel of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Mary Bethel, of Madison; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, William, and two sons, Eldon and Forrest. Funeral services will be held at the Booth-Gunderson Funeral Home, 431 Soden Drive, Oregon, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 1989, with the Reverend Sam Godfry officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 28, at the funeral home.

Death of an Aged Lady -- At the residence of her son-in-law, John Williamson, Esq., Salladasburg, January 30th, Mrs. Phoebe Bethel, widow of the late Thomas Bethel, aged 94 years, 8 months and eighteen days. The deceased was born in Gloucestershire, England, May 12, 1784. She was an extimable Christian lady, being a firm beleiver in the M. E. Church from her youth, and a consistent member of the same. She could repeat from memory a large portion of the Scriptures. Though a subject of severe bodily suffering for forty years, she retained her mental faculties unimpaired, and could converse intelligently on any subject. Converstaion with her was found very pleasant and desireable.

Bethel, Mary Lucinda (b. 27 MAY 1848, d. 17 SEP 1947)

Note: Pioneer Settler of Eagle Grove Celebrates her 99th Birthday.

Mrs. George Jacobson entertained on two occasions, in honor of her Grandmoter, Mrs. Mary Orcutt, who was 99 years old Tuesday, May 27th.

On Sunday, May 25th, a dinner was served during the noon hour, and a social time was enjoyed. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Jacobson and son Steven, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wilfong and Kathleen and Judy, and Mr. and Mrs. George Jacobson.

On Tuesday, another dinner was served and druing the afternoon friends and neighbors called to wish Grandma Orcutt "Happy Birthday." She was the recipient of many nice gifts, flowers and cards. For her advanced age, she is in good health and enjoys visiting and meeting people.

Those attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. George Beaton, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Beaton and Jimmy, Eileen and Joyce from Marcus, Ioa. Also Tom Bethel, a nephew of Mrs. Orcutt's from Paulina, Iowa.

Obituary:

Mary Lucinda Orcutt was born May 27, 1848, to Thomas and Leah Miller Bethel, in Pals Dane County, Wisconsin, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to William Orcutt May 13, 1864.

They came to Iowa in April, 1865, bringing their three month old son. The were eleven days on the road coming by wagon. Mr. and Mrs. Orcutt extabished a home in Wright County, where they lived. They suffered the privation of pioneer life. They acquired a farm and lived there until 1896 when they moved to Eagle Grove, where she has since lived. Four children were born to them. John W. Orcutt and Olive V. Orcutt Robinson and Rosy Jane Orcutt, Coran Orchutt Pletcher.

Her husband passed away February 4, 1911. Rosy Jane, Olive, John and Cora preceded her in death and also two Grand daughters. They also raised three other children, George Beaton who lives in Marcus, Iowa, Charley Hamilton, who was killed in World War I, and Harold Wilfong, who lives on a farm near Goldfield.

She leaves to brothers and two grandaughters, twenty-three great granddaughers, twenty-five great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was the fourth one of a family fo 12 brothers and sisters.

Enlisted March 19, 1864, at Winona, Minn., in First Minnesota Light Artillery, Fourth Division, Seventeenth Army Corps; served in siege and battles of Atlanta, Ezra Church, March to Sea and Cheraw, S.C.; taken prisoner at Bentonville, N.C., March 20, 1865; released June 22, 1865: discharged July 1, 1865, at Fort Snelling, Minn. Settled in this county June 18, 1875, on southeast 1.4 section 30, Highland Township. Died September 22, 1903, and buried at Paullina.
