With flair in the kitchen
and caring advice,
food for the soul
and the gift of spice.
With enchanted roses
in her garden of stories.
With the adventures
of the pink morning glories.
Happy to paint a picture,
needlepoint it too.
With a crochet hook,
she will make a doily, or two.
With an afghan,
a grand work of art.
With the colors of life
she will warm your heart.
(Poem by Roy Schwarze)
This started out as a thank you note to Irma for some doilies she had made for Roy when he got new furniture. He had asked her if she could make him a couple and when they arrived there were enough to cover everything. When Irma received the poem she suggested that Roy enter it in a poetry contest, which he did. The poem received honarable mention.
The line about the morning glories was about the time Irma ordered some special seeds so that she could have pink morning glories. Gardening was one of her many hobbies and past times. She planted the seeds and soon a few of them sprouted, but the rest did not. She discarded the unsprouted seeds into her compost pile and forgot about them. Soon, these seeds sprouted and began to grow. They soon took over the compost pile and everything that was near by.
